Earlier this week, it was announced that Kevin Hart would host the 2019 Oscars and people were NOT pleased. Following the announcement, anti-gay tweets from Hart resurfaced, causing a lot of backlash.
Since then, Hart has announced that he will be stepping down from the role of host because he doesn't "want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists". He made the statement via Twitter.
Prior to making his statement on Twitter, he took to Instagram to explain that the Academy called him to say that he needs to apologize for the tweets or they'll have to move on and find a new host. Hart explains that he's chosen to "pass on the apology" because he's addressed it before.
