School District Threatened to Put Kids in Foster Care over Lunch Debt

This is just wrong on so many levels.

A Pennsylvania school district has come under fire for telling parents in a letter that they will send their children into foster care if the parents don't pay the child's lunch bill debt. One family got the "repo" letter from the Wyoming Valley West School District over a $75 lunch bill.

The letter read "Your child has been sent to school every day without money and without breakfast and/or lunch. This is a failure to provide your child with proper nutrition and you can be sent to Dependency Court for neglecting your child's right to food." The letter then reads that parents are at risk to have their kids sent to foster care.

Not only was the school district community livid over the threatening letter but officials in Luzerne County, where the school is located, have stressed to the school that there's no way they could make such a threat. County officials are demanding the school send a retraction.

The school wouldn't talk to NBC-News and haven't really apologized but told WBRE that they'll send a "softer letter to parents."
