This made my heart feel like it was going to explode.
63 year old biologist Nan Hauser was observing humpback whales off the coast of the Cook Islands when one of the giant animals started behaving oddly. For several minutes, the whale continuously attempted to tuck Nan under its pectoral fins, and even pushed her onto its back and out of the water at one point. While initially a little frightened and confused, Hauser eventually noticed that a tiger shark was just a few feet away -- and that the whale was attempting to protect her.
An excerpt form the YouTube description of the video says:
The moment, Nan, 63, said, is perhaps proof of whale's intuitive nature to protect other species of animal - including humans - something she believes has never been captured on film, and intuition the biologist compared to firemen being willing to rush into a house on fire to help save the lives of those they do not know.
Isn't that amazing?!
