Students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School will now be required to use clear backpacks following the mass shooting that claimed 17 lives in February of 2018.
BREAKING NEWS: The Florida high school where a gunman killed 17 people will now require students to carry only clear backpacks. This was announced after the shooting suspect’s brother was charged w/ trespassing on campus & two students were arrested on charges of carrying knives.— Dave Vescio (@DaveVescio) March 22, 2018
It doesn't feel like I'm going to school anymore, my school doesn't feel like home anymore. Clear backpacks, thanks for letting everyone know where I have my wallet, keys, and feminine hygiene products. I know you're trying to make me feel safer, but now I'm just more scared.— Sara // #NEVERAGAIN (@_saxarmaxim) March 22, 2018
The backpacks will be provided to students at no cost, along with ID badges that they will be required to wear at all times. Administrators are also considering installing permanent metal detectors in an effort to keep weapons out of the school.
clear backpacks, metal detectors, helicopters, armed guards, what’s next?— nhi (@notnhinguyen) March 22, 2018
The clear backpacks thing at stoneman Douglas is really odd.. I mean it's a good temporary solution, but emphasis on~temporary~ solution. The guy who did it just kind of walked in and blended. With hundreds of kids no teacher or guard will be able to pick out someone's backpack— 👽 (@_taygrrr_) March 22, 2018
Making clear backpacks REQUIRED for a Florida school? Ehh.. I understand why but that completely throws away the right of having privacy. In that context, I'm talking about personal things you'd need sometimes like an inhaler, phones, wallets, or even menstruation items.— Jordan.Nesh (@Gameman247) March 22, 2018
Teens: More gun control! We don't want to get killed at school! Government and Schools: CLEAR BACKPACKS WILL SOLVE THIS!— jackie🔆 (@heyitsjackiie) March 22, 2018
