After Branch's beloved great-grandmother passed away, the teen decided she wanted to use her dress as a way to pay tribute to women who inspired her.

"She said, ‘Mom, there’s been so many extraordinary African-American women who have done so much for me. I want to show them some respect so that they know that not just the older adults but the younger adults appreciate who paved the way," Skyler's mother said to Yahoo! Style.

Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Beyoncé, and members of Branch's family are all pictured on the gown, which was brought to life by seamstress Shannon Pierce.
