Following both a heart attack and a staged-paparazzi-photo-scandal, Meghan Markle's father [Thomas] told TMZ that he will no longer attend the royal wedding May 19 -- because he doesn't want to embarrass his daughter or the royals on her big day.
ROYAL SHAKEUP: Meghan Markle is reportedly said to be devastated at the prospect that her father might not attend her wedding: https://t.co/R9vEiwKkGG@paulafaris reports live from Buckingham Palace pic.twitter.com/LQA0NlNQ1l— Good Morning America (@GMA) May 15, 2018
If you're not familiar with the staged-photo-scandal, here it is in a nutshell: Thomas sold paparazzi photos of himself "preparing" for the royal event for around $135,000.
Apparently, Meghan's [estranged] half-sister Samantha -- who is writing a book about the bride-to-be -- set the whole thing up for their dad, claiming that she just wanted him to be seen in a "respectable light."
In response, Kensington Palace told news outlets that Meghan was in the midst of a “deeply personal moment," asking for "understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation.”
Ordinarily a bride would want her father by her side to walk down the aisle. That Meghan Markle is dealing with this in front of the world’s attention cannot be easy. I suspect most people would still hope Thomas Markle can be there on Saturday. Somehow. #royalwedding— Chris Ship (@chrisshipitv) May 14, 2018
I feel really sorry for Meghan Markle and her Dad. The British gutter press are utter pigs.— Lily Allen (@lilyallen) May 14, 2018
No matter what happens with #MeghanMarkle and her father, we are sad that Meghan’s having to deal with it so publicly. Dealing with personal family problems in a very public sphere can not be easy. We hope she finds support in her mom and in all those rooting for her.— Meghans Mirror (@MeghansMirror) May 14, 2018
