Kelly Clarkson served as host for the 2018 Billboard Music Awards -- and she opened the show with a tearful plea for viewers to take meaningful action against gun violence.
The emotional moment comes after Friday’s shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas, which killed ten people and injured thirteen others.
“I'm so sick of moments of silence," she said while fighting back tears. "It's not working."
Our hearts go out to all the victims in the Santa Fe community and their families. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/7ejLAd8nKk— Billboard Music Awards (@BBMAs) May 21, 2018
"We need to do better. We’re failing our children, we’re failing our communities, we’re failing their families," Clarkson continued. "I have four children, I cannot imagine getting that phone call or that knock on the door. Let’s have a moment of action, let’s have a moment of change."

So don't you dare criticize @kelly_clarkson about caring about children's lives.
We need to do something. As parents it's our jobs. If you're a parent and have guns it's yours too!
Guns don't mean more then our children. #Fact
Kelly Clarkson is a Mother. We need to protect her children, and all of the other children of all the millions of mothers across this Nation. It has to start with common sense gun reform. https://t.co/UYpafsyNa9— Randall Lace (@rklace) May 21, 2018
