Demi Lovato has apologized to fans after a Twitter Q&A in which she revealed a controversial 'prank' she pulled on her bodyguard in Las Vegas.
Demi Lovato is receiving backlash over a prank she pulled on a man, where she hired a lady to go into his room and grab his "area" without his permission. pic.twitter.com/faIJFyZaeD— Pop Crave News (@PopCrave) June 3, 2018
Although Demi clearly found the whole thing amusing, many fans were quick to accuse Demi of facilitating sexual assault.
Let me say it louder: ASSAULT IS ASSAULT!!!!! Statistics show you’re most likely to be assaulted by someone you know. I cant even imagine hiring someone to do the worst thing you can do to another human being and claim it’s a prank? MEN CAN BE ASSAULTED TOO!! This isn’t (+) https://t.co/4I1y2NX6Lf— ronni // 54 (@iwishtaywould) June 3, 2018

According to Demi Lovato a sexual assault against a man is funny.
CAN WE ALL UNDERSTAND IN 2018 THAT A SEXUAL ASSAULT AGAINST A MAN IS NOT A NORMAL THING AND WE SHOULDN’T LAUGHT ABOUT IT??
NEWS: A MAN HAS FEELINGS TOO, A MAN CAN BE SEXUAL ASSAULTED TOO.
Lovato got defensive pretty quick, Tweeting that her critics should listen to the lyrics of Warrior, and "You don't have to educate me."
For all of those coming at me rn, listen to the lyrics of Warrior and maybe you’ll have more compassion for someone who made a simple mistake. Of all people I know about sexual abuse. You don’t have to educate me.— Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) June 3, 2018
....Then she added more fuel to the fire, as people became outraged that she compared [what some believe to be] sexual assault to jelly beans.
I swear I could tweet something about craving jelly beans and it would offend someone.— Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) June 3, 2018
imagine comparing sexual assault to jelly beans ugh demi truly lost her last two braincells— nate (@kissmylipa) June 3, 2018
Eventually, Demi just straight up apologized.
So sorry if anyone was offended 😔— Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) June 3, 2018
Her bodyguard, Max, jumped to her defense, but we have yet to hear anything else from her.
Really! You guys all need to ‘Grow Up’! It was a joke and a fun prank from someone whose incredible to work for and with. And does everything she can for her fans, family and friends. Love you @ddlovato— Max (@2Maxx22) June 3, 2018
#WeLoveYouDemi. This has all been blown way out of proportion. Yes, Demi’s wording was of poor choice but the prank itself was innocent and just a bit of fun. We love you @ddlovato and we’ll never stop protecting you from the haters. 💓💓💓— Demi Lovato Tell Me You Love Me Tour News (@DemiTourCentral) June 3, 2018
The fact that Demi Lovato couldn’t fully grasp why people were angry by what she considered to be a “prank” and instead made it about her and said “sorry to anyone offended” what a bullshit thing to do. That is bullshit and now I’m annoyed. You’re annoying.— onnalise ⚰️ (@starshollowed) June 3, 2018
I find it disgusting how Demi Lovato joked about hiring a woman to grope her bodyguard without his consent and acted like it was a "prank". Imagine if the situation was reversed and a woman was grabbed without her consent. Sexual assault is never funny, no matter the gender. pic.twitter.com/v8fNU2DWf7— 18 days | Expectations (@2soulsonfire) June 3, 2018
I’ll add that it is DAMN lucky the person who was on the receiving end of Demi Lovato’s “prank” wasn’t hurt or upset by it. It could so, so easily have gone the other way, and what an unnecessary risk for the sake of a giggle.— 🏳️🌈Caroline💗💜💙 (@DanaCypress) June 3, 2018
