This is so disturbing.
Administrators of a middle school in Stafford County, Virginia have been met with harsh criticism after they allegedly excluded a transgender student from participating in an active shooter safety drill. A Facebook post written by Equality Stafford states that while students were instructed to take shelter in the bathrooms, one student was told to sit in the hallway as teachers did not know which bathroom to send her to. You can read a detailed account of what happened below.
According to the Free-Lance Star, Stafford County Superintendent Scott Kizner addressed the incident in a school board meeting, stating: "We did not live up to my unwavering expectation that every child and adult—regardless of race, religion, color, disability, gender and sexual orientation—is treated with respect and dignity and for that I apologize to the student, the family and the Stafford community."
