According to an exclusive report from Us Weekly, Maroon 5 actually wasn't the NFL's first choice for the Super Bowl 53 Halftime Show. Apparently, they offered the gig to Rihanna -- who turned it down in support of Colin Kaepernick.
Kaepernick -- formerly of the San Francisco 49ers -- has been the recipient of both praise and criticism for his protest against police brutality, which involved him quietly kneeling during the national anthem.
An inside source said, "The NFL and FOX really wanted Rihanna to be next year's performer in Atlanta. They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn't agree with the NFL's stance."
