In news that you didn't expect to read today, Starbucks has announced that it will block pornography on its free WiFi in all stores by 2019. [Because somehow, there are people who watch porn at frickin' Starbucks.]
To be clear, watching porn in Starbucks stores has always been banned, but the company didn't actively block pornographic content on its in-store WiFi -- so people could do it anyway if they were sneaky enough.
“While it rarely occurs, the use of Starbucks public Wi-Fi to view illegal or egregious content is not, nor has it ever been permitted. We have identified a solution to prevent this content from being viewed within our stores and we will begin introducing it to our US locations in 2019," Starbucks said in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement comes after mounting pressure from non-profit organization Enough Is Enough, which urged Starbucks to filter WiFi content, saying in a petition that public WiFi networks “are attracting pedophiles and sex offenders” and therefore putting children at risk.
