Iran's Supreme Leader Calls Missile Strike A 'Slap in the Face' for America

"The discussion about revenge is something else, this was just a slap in the face last night," Iran's supreme leader [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei] said of the recent missile attacks on U.S. military forces in Iraq.

The attack came just days after a drone strike ordered by the U.S. killed Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, longtime leader of the elite Quds Force in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. [The IRGC has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States.]

"We warn the Great Satan, the arrogant American regime, that any new invasions and aggression will result in more painful and pounding responses," the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement claiming responsibility for the strikes.

Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said that the bases affected had been on "high alert."

As of 7:14AM CST Wednesday morning, the U.S. military is reportedly still assessing battle damage, and President Trump is expected to make a statement.
