We were all pretty disappointed when Disney abruptly halted production of the ~*HiGhLy AnTiCiPaTeD*~ Lizzie McGuire reboot -- but now, we actually know why they did it.
Turns out, former [fired] showrunner Terri Minsky wanted to portray a more 'adult' version of Lizzie than Disney was comfortable with. [Given that Lizzie's character is 30 years old and fans of the show have grown up too, I don't know why they'd think any other portrayal was appropriate, but okay.]
Hilary Duff threw a little shade at ThE hOuSe Of MoUSe on Instagram when they made a similar move with the Love, Simon TV-series [which was also not seen as 'family-friendly' enough for the Disney+ platform. ]
"I would love the show to exist," Minsky told Variety, "But ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That's the part where I am completely in the dark."
Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens, but as of now, Disney is still looking for a new showrunner.
