Grimes [Mother of 'X Æ A-12'] is Literally Selling A Piece of Her Soul

You've probably heard more about Grimes over the last month than you ever have in your entire life, given that the world lost its mind when she had a baby with Elon Musk and named it X Æ A-12. [I think, after an exhausting amount of digging, that it's pronounced Ecks Ash Archangel. But it should also be noted that they have since tweaked it to include roman numerals, making it X Æ A-ii. California state law is thought to be the reason why. Idk. I don't f***in' know, y'all. I'm tryin' so hard.]

But an unconventional baby name isn't the strangest thing she's making headlines for anymore -- turns out, the Canadian singer is selling a piece of her soul to the highest bidder. Apparently it's part of an online art exhibition she's putting on called Selling Out.

Grimes originally set the price at $10 million, but then changed it to a best offer SiTuATiOn.

"I didn’t want anyone to buy it, so I said we should just make it $10 million and then it probably won’t sell," she told Bloomberg.

Selling Out, a conceptual artwork that lends its title to the exhibition, is the culmination of Grimes’ holistic art practice. It expands upon the conceit of partitioning and re-administering one’s identity, whose art is their soul. Selling Out is executed as a contract in which Grimes sells a fraction of her soul, formalizing the idea that every time an artist sells a piece of their art, part of the soul is sold with it. The purchaser will enter into a contractual agreement that outlines the terms of ownership and ultimately the connection to the joy of artistic expression, a press release about the exhibition says.

I wonder if Elon is allowed to get in on the bidding?

Either way, Selling Out will be available for viewing through August 31st, so it'll be a while before we see what happens. Until then, enjoy this makeup tutorial Grimes did for Vogue magazine several months ago. I'm not being sarcastic when I tell you that I'm kind of obsessed with it. I love how eccentric she is.
