Kristen Stewart has reportedly been cast as Princess Diana in the upcoming bio-pic Spencer, which is [obviously] about the late, beloved royal. The movie is set to take place over a Christmas vacation in the early 90s, when Prince William & Prince Harry found out their parents were divorcing.
Spencer's director, Pablo Larraín, said the drama is a "fairy tale upside down. When someone decides not to be Queen, I've always thought it must have been very hard to do."
“It’s about finding herself, about understanding that possibly the most important thing for her is to be well, and to be with herself and by herself,” Larraín told Deadline. “That’s why the movie is called Spencer, which is the family name she had before she met Charles.”
Kristen Stewart is currently 30 years old -- which was exactly Diana's age when she decided to leave Prince Charles.
While the internet is usually pretty brutal with anything involving Kristen Stewart, I actually think this was a great casting decision. Kristen reminds me of Diana -- not just in her looks, but in her mannerisms and demeanor, as well.
"Kristen is one of the great actors around today. To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need. The combination of those elements made me think of her," Pablo said of her fitness for the role.
